The alpine skiing world roared in October 2023, when the Norwegian star Lucas Braathen announced that he would end his career at only 23 years old. The reason was poor relations with the country’s skiing association.
Now Braathen has been told by brass media For Globo, that he plans to return to the slopes under the Brazilian flag. The transfer to another union will take place in July.
The alpine skier’s mother is Brazilian, and she herself lived in the country when she was younger.
– I grew up playing soccer in the streets of Sao Paulo with my friends and cousins. This is the right time for me, he told Globo.
– I feel joy and love. I am passionate about representing Brazil. That’s a big deal for me.
Braathen’s manager Pedro Cavazzoni believes that the Norwegian will bring alpine skiing closer to the people of Brazil.
Despite his young age, he has already won the slalom world cup in 2023. He has five race victories.
– My main goal is to bring brass culture, dancing and emotions to winter sports. It is important to show the sports people that you can be different and still be one of the best in your sport. I want to show that sport belongs to everyone, said Braathen.
Braathen has received a lot of hate comments in his career, for example about his clothing. She has published pictures of herself in a skirt, for example.
