The full line-up of the first Queer Music Festival in Leipzig can now be viewed.
The Queer Music Festival has announced its full program. Between April 18th and 21st, numerous queer artists will perform and exhibit in Leipzig.
Art for visibility
Contrary to the name, the Queer Music Festival is not just about music. In addition to concerts, there will also be readings, art exhibitions and film screenings. The organizers define it as follows: “Always in focus: celebrating and empowering queer identities, queer bodies and, above all, queer music!” According to their own statement, the aim is to offer the LGBTQI+ community a safe environment. “Being loud together at a time when silence is becoming more and more dangerous. “Being visible at a time when queerness has become a fashion accessory in a privileged bubble, but queer people in public spaces increasingly have to fear for their safety,” says BOUYGERHL, a Leipzig-based archive for queer music. This organizes the festival. The motto of the first edition of the festival is “Identity is Reality”. The Saxon city’s cultural office supports the festival.
