The Lahti World Cup judging council punished the Swedish skiing star Frida Karlsson.
In the quarterfinals of the free sprint, in the curve leading to the finish line, Karlsson acted against the rules in the opinion of the judges’ council when he drifted into the USA Julia Kern on skis. Karlsson crashed after contact, Kern was able to continue the race.
– I felt good in the last corner. Then the skis went under, commented Karlsson.
Did you or did Kern do something wrong?
– I went ahead of him, I hadn’t chosen the track yet. He went towards the track, which was not free. I do not know. That kind of thing happens in a sprint, the Swede answered.
The referee’s council ordered the Swede a yellow card. Karlsson had a yellow underneath, so two cards disqualified her from Sunday’s race.
– This was a really crappy weekend, Karlsson summed up and referred to the difficulties he experienced.
On Friday, in the traditional pair relay, Karlsson and Maja Dahlqvist’s the race was ruined when Dahlqvist fell and broke his skis. On Saturday, in the 20 km traditional split race, Karlsson suffered from equipment challenges.

of the USA Julia Kern was 2/5 third in the quarter-finals, and did not progress through the time comparison.
– Everything happened very quickly. Linn Svahn went in the middle and Frida skied to the side. My space became cramped. Then Frida changed the line and we hit each other. Unfortunately, I lost my momentum after that, Kern stated.
Swedish Svahn and Swiss Desiree Steiner made it from the quarter-finals to the semi-finals of the top twelve.
