SV Sandhausen defeated SC Freiburg II 1-0 (0-0) in the 3rd league. Both teams owe a lot in terms of play. Livan Burcu’s decisive goal made up for this.
SV Sandhausen tried for almost a week after the 1:2 defeat at Viktoria Köln early to control the game. But coach Jens Keller’s team did well against the bottom of the table – arriving with the self-confidence of two recent wins – difficult.
After half an hour, both teams only had one shot on goal. There was no real chance to score. The Freiburg team were able to improve a bit over the course of the first half, but it didn’t really become compelling until the break.
There was far too little from Sandhausen in the first 45 minutes for a team that still has hopes of promotion. The audience acknowledged the performance with whistles at the break.
Diekmeier and Otto bring new momentum to Sandhausen
Keller reacted and brought in two fresh players, David Otto and Dennis Diekmeier, for Markus Pink and Luca Zander. The changes had an effect, Sandhausen was now much better in the game. In the 48th minute, Otto missed the 1-0 when he missed Freiburg’s goalkeeper Benjamin Uphoff from a tight angle.
The guests increasingly concentrated on defense. During a Freiburg counterattack, right-back Pascal Fallmann had the best chance of the game so far, but his shot went past the far post (69th minute).
However, Sandhausen stayed on the trigger and Diekmeier missed the lead when his header hit the left post (73′). The following corner was also dangerous; Patrick Greil came a step too late at the far post. Three minutes later the time had come. Livan Burcu supposedly wanted to cross from the left side, but the ball hit the corner, which was both impressive and unstoppable for Uphoff.
SVS scores three points
Freiburg almost got a quick equalizer, but central defender Ifechukwu Ogbus was unable to control the ball after a free-kick cross from Mika Baur (80′). Not much more came from the sports club, the SVS safely achieved the victory.
While Sandhausen now has 45 points and is close to the promotion ranks, Freiburg is still in last place with 15 points. The sports club welcomes VfB Lübeck next matchday (9.3., 2 p.m.). A day later, the SVS plays the top game at SSV Ulm (7:30 p.m.)
