The Utah Royals will resume play in the MLS in March. With Lindsey Vonn, a prominent donor has now joined the club. She’s not the only one.
Olympic ski champion Lindsey Vonn is expanding her activities as a businesswoman and has acquired a stake in the Utah Royals soccer club. The 39-year-old belongs to an investor group led by Ryan Smith, owner of the Utah Jazz, and David Blitzer, boss of the Philadelphia 76ers. Their Global Football Holdings holds shares in several clubs, including FC Augsburg and Crystal Palace in England.
“I’m excited to support women, especially women in Utah,” Vonn said in a video shared by the club. The Royals played in the American National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) from 2018 to 2020 before all contracts were transferred to the newly founded Kansas City NWSL franchise.
Vonn and Co. are now making a new attempt. The season in the NWSL starts on March 16th, the Royals then meet the Chicago Red Stars with former Bayern and national player Maximiliane Rall. “I’ll be there,” Vonn promised.
