The Buffalo Bills will certainly have to make some adjustments soon after once again not being able to make a big leap in the last NFL season. Those in charge shouldn’t even dare to think about trading quarterback Josh Allen.
“CBS Sports” anchor Ryan Hickey recently suggested the Bills trade Allen to the Chicago Bears. In exchange, Buffalo would receive the two first-round picks from the NFC North representative (at position one and position nine) in the upcoming NFL Draft.
The fact that the New Yorkers are giving up their franchise quarterback in a timely manner makes little sense to the neutral observer. On top of that, Hickey’s mind game didn’t go down well with the Bills Mafia either.
“The fans would burn the city down and [General Manager Brandon] Beane would have to go into the witness protection program for the rest of his life,” one fan outlined the consequences of an Allen trade on X (formerly Twitter).
Another user made it clear that Allen would leave behind almost 50 million in dead money, which is why a trade here would not be desirable for the Bills.
“So Buffalo starts the offseason $33 million over the salary cap and then trades Allen, leaving them $85 million overcap space. They would have to cut every other player with a positive cap number and a roster with at least 30 minimum contract players or put up UDFAs,” the user wrote.
NFL: Everyone faced criticism at the time
The Bills, for their part, will of course not seriously consider passing on one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. Especially since Brandon Beane sacrificed numerous picks in 2018 to move up to position 7 in the draft and bring Allen into the team.
“We got a little bit of criticism for how much we gave up for Josh,” the Bills GM recalled during the week during the combine.
Beane wasn’t afraid of the reaction from Buffalo regarding his Allen move. “I thought if it didn’t work out with him, I wouldn’t be there anyway [lange] be here. And if it works out with him, no one will care.”
