9 out of 10 Ukrainian refugees are women and children

The organism of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) arose after the Second World Waron December 14, 1950. Since that date, this entity, in more than seven decades, has helped tens of millions of people, who were mobilized by different war conflicts, to restart their lives.

Two years after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the organization released different figures on those displaced by the conflict in the European country. According to data from the UN Agency, more 6.4 million people have left Ukraine seeking safety in neighboring countries since the start of the war two years ago.

Nine out of ten refugees from Ukraine are women or children school age. As a result of the confrontation and the flight from their homes, the minors are not accessing any formal educational institution.

He 92% of refugees are in European countries, while there are already 470,000 refugees in non-European countries, including Argentina. The countries that received the most Ukrainian refugees are: Poland with 15% of the total refugees, followed by the Czech Republic, the Republic of Moldova, Slovakia and Romania.

Currently, 14.6 million people in Ukraine (40% of the population) urgently need humanitarian aid. While 3.6 million people continue to be displaced from their homes inside the Slavic country. Some have already been separated from their families and away from their home for around two years.

The new anniversary finds both nations in different situations, in a kind of winter trench war, where drones took center stage with attacks on both sides of the border. The Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky continues to seek support from Western powers, promising to prevail in the conflict.

In the rest of the European continent, pessimism is growing: only one in ten Europeans believes that Kyiv can emerge victorious, according to data from the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR). Beyond the first setbacks, Russia redoubles its military effort and continues its advance westward after taking control of the Ukrainian city of Avdiivka.

Ukraine needs military assistance USAaid that is hindered by a struggle between democrats and republicans, in the middle of the race for the presidential elections on November 5. Vladimir Putin, for its part, seems more comfortable after directing a large part of its economy to the war industry. The conflict is far from over.
