Toni Kroos will play for the German national team again in the future. The Real Madrid midfielder announced this on Instagram on Thursday. “I will play for Germany again from March. Why? Because I was asked by the national coach, I’m up for it and I’m sure that a lot more is possible with the team at the European Championships than most people currently believe!” wrote the 106-time national player, who played his last international match in June 2021.
Kroos in the top 10: Most international matches for the German national team
Kroos took part in the 2010, 2014 and 2018 World Cups with the DFB team, and he also took part in the 2012, 2016 and 2020 European Championship finals – so the home European Championship will be his seventh major tournament, should nothing come up.
Most recently, the man from Greifswald spoke openly about a possible comeback under national coach Julian Nagelsmann – who in turn opened the door for this in December in the “ZDF-Sportstudio” by describing Kroos’ return to the DFB as an “interesting thought”. “I’m still thinking about it, I haven’t made a decision yet,” said Kroos in mid-February, deflecting questions about the national team skillfully and meaningfully: “There is a possibility.”
