Fazer’s Real is one of the classics on the rye bread shelf. Now both the package size and shape of the bread have changed. The recipe has also been filed.
The bag size of Fazer’s Real Wholegrain rye bread has been reduced from 420 grams to 360 grams. At the same time, the number of slices in a bag of bread has decreased from ten to nine.
The shape of the bread slices has also changed. Previously square slices are now rectangles.
We asked Fazer what caused the changes.
– The baking of Fazer Real whole grain rye bread was moved to another baking line in January. Unfortunately, we are unable to bake the product on the new line in the same size as before, and therefore the outer dimensions of the bread and the number of slices in the package had to be reduced, says Fazer Leipomoin’s Director of Communications Tarja Kuusela.

The molds of the new baking line are different from the old one, and so is the oven.
– The flour-water ratio in the bread recipe had to be slightly changed due to the new line’s different oven, says Kuusela.
Fazer Real was launched in 1990, and it has established itself on the rye bread shelves of stores. The taste of Real is partially due to chance: the line broke, as a result of which the breads stayed in the oven for a longer time than intended and came out of the oven especially tasty.
– Long and slow baking and rising give the bread flavor, Kuusela states.
Real is not the only product whose package size has become smaller. Changes have been seen in the last few years for several different products. For example, the package size of HK’s Aitonakkie changed from 420 grams to 360 grams in autumn 2022. Taffeli’s Megabags, on the other hand, used to weigh 320 grams, today the weight is 305 grams.
The package sizes have also decreased for, for example, certain cold cuts, cheeses and spreads.
