Martin Gaus joins the massive criticism of Carlo Boszhard’s controversial TV show. The dog whisperer even thinks there should be a ban on Married At First Sight.
There has been criticism of Married At First Sight for some time, but now more and more people seem to be realizing that it is very distasteful to use ordinary people so shamelessly for viewing figures. According to critics, it is simply unethical to allow complete strangers to marry each other on the basis of so-called scientific research.
Rancid television
What makes things even more questionable is that there are no scientists associated with Carlo Boszhard’s RTL 4 show. Candidates therefore think that they will be matched with someone on the basis of some kind of scientific model, but the reality is of course that TV makers are mainly looking for matches that produce fireworks.
Martin Gaus calls for a ban on this show, he says NPO Radio 1. “I have an opinion. My opinion is: raunchy television. Rancid television is based on people’s ignorance or strange ideas, allowing them to participate in such a program. You can have one conclusion: they are not concerned with the relationship, but with showing that they are there.”
‘Great shame’
Carlo should be ashamed of himself, says Martin, the Dr. Phil from the dog world. “I think it’s a shame that there are broadcasters or institutions that make these types of programs. I’m not for censorship, but it’s not right. It doesn’t fit into the system of how people enter into relationships at all. You build a relationship, a relationship grows.”
He continues: “Don’t tell me you just put someone in front of an official and they say, ‘You can get married now.’ It does not make any sense. How do those people actually undress? Nothing has been built up. That doesn’t happen automatically, does it? That has to grow. Everyone knows with all the logic in the world that it is completely insane. I think it’s a shame.”
Martin wants ban
Presenter Ron Vergouwen asks Martin point-blank: “So you actually think that these types of programs should be banned?”
Yes, he answers. “I think so, but there are many people who have a different opinion, but I think so.”
