Freiburg and Frankfurt draw 3-3 after a wild game

SC Freiburg and Eintracht Frankfurt shared the points after a crazy game. The protests against the DFL also reached a new level.

After a wild game with a total of six goals, SC Freiburg and Eintracht Frankfurt separated 3:3 (2:2). The guests in Breisgau took the lead three times. The home team was able to equalize the deficit three times.

Eintracht’s lead through Omar Marmoush (27th minute) was immediately equalized by Freiburg’s Ritsu Doan (30th). Ansgar Knauff struck back for the Hessians five minutes later (35′), before Vincenzo Grifo converted a penalty kick in stoppage time in the first half to bring the score level again (45’+5). In the second half, Knauff scored a brace (72′). But Michael Gregoritsch had the last word and headed in shortly before the end to make it 3-3 (89′).

The game also had to be interrupted several times. Once again there were protests in the stands against the entry of a possible investor into the league. After just two minutes, the fans threw candies onto the field. Shortly after halftime, what was probably the most bizarre moment of the protests that had been going on for weeks occurred: miniature planes flew through the stadium and caused another long interruption.

Bitter for Frankfurt: Winter signing Saša Kalajdžić was injured early in the game. The striker has already suffered two cruciate ligament tears in his career and later sat on the substitutes’ bench with crutches and a leg brace.

With 33 points, Eintracht Frankfurt remains in sixth place in the Europa League after the draw, while Freiburg is four points behind in eighth place. Coach Dino Toppmöller’s team will face Saint-Gilloise in the second leg of the Europa Conference League on Thursday (first leg 2-2). The SC is then also in action. Christian Streich’s team meets Lens in the Europa League (first leg 0-0).
