Luuk Ikink and his colleagues from RTL Boulevard continue to frequently promote the controversial TV show Married At First Sight by presenter Carlo Boszhard. “We should all laugh!”
In 2024, you may wonder whether the supposedly socially committed RTL 4 can still embarrass defenseless people, purely for the viewing figures. Participants in Married At First Sight think they are marrying a complete stranger based on science, but that is nothing more than deception. There is increasing resistance against the show.
‘Everyone laugh!’
RTL Boulevard broadcasts an extremely large number of promotional items about Married At First Sight. Sometimes the broadcast even opens with this kind of RTL promotion. And they continue to do so, including yesterday, on the day that Carlo was accused in the Volkskrant of facilitating inappropriate behavior.
After broadcasting a spectacular argument from Married At First Sight, presenter Eddy Zoëy screams: “We all need to laugh a bit. Rob, how did you look?”
‘YES!’
Rob Goossens also loves seeing how RTL 4 embarrasses all these people on national television. “With a mixture of curled toes and powerlessness!”, he answers.
Eddy hysterical: “YES!”
Rob: “How I would have loved to have gone there to save Dirk from this terrible woman. It’s not normal how big the plate is in front of her head.”
Scoop on top
Ah, at RTL Boulevard they go the extra mile. Then those candidates shouldn’t have been so stupid as to participate! Eddy: “You have angry voices saying: yes, shouldn’t you do better preliminary research about which people you choose and shouldn’t you protect people from themselves a bit?”
Evil tongues that they would rather not hear at Boulevard, because these types of items apparently score very well. Rob doesn’t have a suitable answer. “I don’t think I’m the only one wondering where on earth they found Anneke.”
“They’re horrible!”
So it is up to the candidates, not the production, says Rob. “I think Anneke knows very well what she wants to show to the world. Some people are just horrible and don’t mind showing it.”
Colleague Luuk Ikink: “You notice that broadcasters and RTL also have difficulty finding a modus operandi: how should you deal with all those nasty reactions?”
Harmful
Ultimately, formats die out on their own if candidates are embarrassed in them, says Rob. “Ultimately it is more damaging to the program. People start thinking: oh no, the next time I participate I might be paired with an Anneke like that. Others will think: hey, but if I participate, won’t I be portrayed as Anneke?”
Eddy: “Yes, or do you have to behave like that and does it attract the wrong people?”
