BigMama at Le Iene: «Be uncomfortable»

Her words were dedicated to all women, to encourage them to make their voices heard loudly and never remain silent: «Be uncomfortable, annoy, rebel, say no, report» said the singer, now a social media idol, keeping faith with her “mission”, that is, continuing to talk about the strength of women, their emancipation and how, unfortunately, they are still underestimated by society.

«When a woman rocks, she rocks»

«One of the first compliments I received was: you’re a little girl, yet you wrote a piece that rocks – he said BigMama – it took me a while to realize that it was a half compliment. It was always like this, they told me I rocked even though I was a woman. Because when a woman rocks, her voice is no longer an instrument, it’s a megaphone. Her body is no longer an object, it is a poster. Her career is no longer a game, she becomes politics. I wonder when they’ll start to understand that women just rock.”

When awareness comes

And he continues: «On the evening of the duets in Sanremo – he says – I wrote this line: I’m a woman who rocks, is that strange? Because there is no worse feeling than feeling alone, and I’ve felt it my entire life. Being attacked, mocked, assaulted, raped and then feel deeply dirty and guilty. I was tired: my voice had to be heard, it had to accompany, take the hand and lead those who were listening towards awareness.”

«I’m talking but without a tie, is that strange?»

And it can be said that BigMama succeeded: «Remember, when you speak you are dangerous, you cannot be controlled and possessed. I’m a woman who rocks, is that strange? It’s a phrase that, if I say it now, makes me think only of immense joy. There on stage, together with the other girls, I felt very strong, like the voice of women united. Be uncomfortable – she concludes – take fear and turn it into something that can split the world in half. I speak but without a tie, is that strange?”.

Who is BigMama

Marianna Mammone was born in 2000 in Avellino and lives in a very small provincial town, before arriving in Milan in 2019. She approached the world of rap in 2013 when she wrote her first lyrics and recorded them in her bedroom and then published her songs on YouTube. BigMama is like a shield for Marianna, the artistic alter ego that allows her to face her fragilities and show the world his scars through music. The stage of the Sanremo Festival was her debut with the song Anger is not enough for you «my revenge» he said on stage.

Icon of bodypositivity: «Today I like myself just the way I am»

He fought against a malignant blood tumor which was diagnosed when she was just twenty years old and today she is fine, but in the past she has suffered other very hard blows from life. But from gratuitous malice she learned to defend herself with music and self-irony: «I’m a woman, fat, rapper and queer: in short, I have it all». Today, however, BigMama has been able to transform itself into an icon of body positivity and the redemption from prejudices and stereotypes and we feel «good as it is». Rightly.
