Wayne Rooney is currently unemployed. But the ex-striker from England is said to be interested in another sport.
Former Manchester United football club star Wayne Rooney is apparently trying out a new sport. The former England international, who was fired as coach at Birmingham City at the beginning of January, is said to be turning to boxing – at least for one fight. This is reported by the British “Mirror”. There are said to have been initial discussions.
Accordingly, Rooney is considering getting into the ring for the Misfits fights. These are boxing matches that are organized by, among others, Kalle Sauerland, son of the famous boxing promoter Wilfried Sauerland.
The fights are primarily about money. Stars like Youtuber KSI and Logan Paul have already taken part, and the fights will be broadcast on pay TV. The events have been running since 2022.
Exceptional English player
The 38-year-old Rooney is considered an exceptional player in England. He appeared in 559 games for Manchester and scored 253 goals for the club. He played 120 times for England. After ending his career with Manchester in 2017, he moved to Everton for a short time before moving to DC United in the USA.
In 2020 he returned home to Derby County, where he was initially both a coach and a player. In January 2021 he will end his playing career and focus on coaching and club management. He has not announced a new signing since leaving Birmingham after just 15 games.
