“Vultures 1” is the first of three collaborative albums with Ty Dolla $ign, all due out in 2024
In recent months, Kanye West, now officially active under the name Ye, has been more talked about with scandals than with music. On February 10, 2024, West released new songs again – more precisely, his new album “Vultures 1”, which he is releasing together with Ty Dolla $ign under the project name ¥$.
The album can currently be found on Apple Music under the search term Kanye West and Ty Dolla $ign, not under ¥$. What’s striking is that the original album cover, inspired by the Norwegian, right-wing radical band Burzum, has apparently been replaced. The new version shows a masked man and the rear view of a woman – it can be assumed that it is West and his wife Bianca Censori.
For the originally published cover artwork, West used a work of art by Caspar David Friedrich. The album title “Vultures” could be seen in Fraktur font. Some saw clear parallels here with Burzum, who designed some of their artwork similarly in terms of both typeface and motifs.
Billboard calls it a “generational moment”
Billboard.com highlights the track “Carnival” in particular, writing: “‘Carnival’ is the perfect example of why people ignore all the controversy, album delays and madness that comes with being a Ye fan Buy it, because no one in rap creates generational moments like this.” “Spiegel” journalist Andreas Borcholte calls the album in his review “good, but unappetizing”.
Fans of the controversial musician can look forward to two more albums this year: “Vultures 2” and “Vultures 3” are scheduled to follow on March 8, 2024 and April 5, 2024, respectively.
