To mark his departure from British ‘Vogue’, former editor-in-chief Edward Enninful brought together 40 women on the cover. The March issue of the magazine features, among others, US talk show host Oprah Winfrey, actress Jane Fonda and models Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Christy Turlington.
Enninful wrote that he wanted to dedicate his last cover to women. He held his breath for weeks. “Would 40 of the most booked and lauded women in the world make it to a studio in New York on a December day to take a picture together?”
“Spoiler alert: They have,” Enninful wrote in the editorial. The cover, released Thursday, also features singer Miley Cyrus, tennis player Serena Williams and designer Victoria Beckham.
Enninful was the first black man to lead the influential magazine in 2017. It was announced in the summer that he was giving up his position at the British edition and taking on a new advisory role within the publishing house Condé Nast.
According to the PA news agency, Enninful once described the fact that British ‘Vogue’ featured people with disabilities on the cover last year as one of the proudest moments of his career.
Under his leadership, Duchess Meghan, Prince Harry’s wife, also designed an edition called ‘Forces for Change’ in 2019. The cover featured, among other things, a portrait of climate activist Greta Thunberg. (dpa)
