THEThe 2024 Strega Prize has come to life and the first official announcements and also the first controversies have arrived. They have in fact been made known the first ten books proposed by the Friends of Sunday and every week the list will be updated on social media until February 29th.
Strega Award, the first names proposed
The names are: Adrian N. Well done with Adelaida (Nutriments), proposed by Romana Petri; Antonella Di Fabio with The murder of Valle Giulia (Frilli), nominated by Massimiliano Minerva; Peppe Fiore with The lovers (Einaudi), presented by Marco Cassini; Giuseppe Genna with Yara. True crime (Bompiani), proposed by Ferruccio Parazzoli; Angela Giannitrapani with In the house next door (Progedit), nominated by Raffaele Nigro.
From Antonella Lattanzi to Gennaro Serio
The list continues with Antonella Lattanzi with Things that aren’t told (Einaudi), presented by Valeria Parrella; Andrea Piva with The eternal girl (Bompiani), nominated by Nicola Lagioia. It’s still: Eduardo Savarese with The Mothers of Wisdom (Wojtek), presented by Riccardo Cavallero; Gennaro Serio, Ludmilla and the raven (L’orma), nominated by Giuseppe Lupo; Mirko Zilahy with Our Lady of the Clouds (HarperCollins), proposed by Roberto Ippolito.

Nominations will stop on March 1st
After this first round, new candidates will be communicated every week, until March 1st, when applications will close. Therefore February and March will be the months of the proposals which will then be examined by the technical committee of the prize, chaired by Melania Mazzucco, who will select the fantastic 12 who will access the pre-final phase. The April 4Then, the five candidates for the European Strega Prize, the dozens of the Fiction Prize and the Strega Poetry Prize will be announced. The final choice it will instead be played on June 5th.
The first controversy: Abbate is a self-nominated candidate
First controversy already born among the Award Management Committee rejected the self-nomination of Fulvio Abbate who is a Sunday Friend, for The emblem (The ship of Theseus): the regulation, in fact, “implies that the reporting subject is different from the author”.
And the author himself who claimed that «at the time Maria Bellonci had also nominated herself for the Strega with Private Renaissance», to which the Bellonci Foundation he replied that «the novel was presented by Giovanni Macchia and Geno Pampaloni». And this is only the beginning.
