Recently there was already speculation about Feyenoord Rotterdam’s interest, now Trabzonspor is apparently pushing for a commitment from Thomas Meunier. As transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports, an agreement in principle was reached on a change for the right-back from Borussia Dortmund. Accordingly, the negotiations are very advanced, only the final details remain to be clarified before the contract can be signed soon.

Update 6:26 p.m.: Romano posted on his X profile on Tuesday evening a video showing Meunier arriving in Turkey. The transfer is now nearing completion.

The transfer window is already closed in Germany, but in Turkey it is still open until February 9th. It is therefore still possible for the 32-year-old to say goodbye, even though Meunier recently appeared on the pitch eight times in a row in the Bundesliga. Before that, the Belgian had not had an easy year; it was only the failures of Marius Wolf and Julian Ryerson that brought him back into the BVB team.

The latter, who has been out since the beginning of December due to an inner knee ligament injury, is expected to return to team training in the next few days. What could also speak for a farewell: According to information from the “Ruhr NewsAs was the case in the summer, he was not reported for Dortmund’s squad in the Champions League. While he was out at the start of the season due to an injury, he is now fit but will still not be considered for the premier class. The two loans from England, Jadon Sancho and Ian Maatsen, are said to have been reported later.

Meunier’s working paper expires at the end of the season, and BVB would only have the chance to collect a small transfer fee and get one of the top earners off the payroll this winter. Meunier’s annual salary is rumored to be up to 8 million euros. The 62-time Belgian national player could, with a change of air, possibly recommend himself for the European Championships coming up in the summer.
