No arrests at farmers’ protest A28, but fines were issued

The police did not arrest anyone at the farmers’ protest on the A28 near Meppel last night. A spokesperson does say that he has noted down “many” license plates of tractor drivers who were involved in the action. They can expect a fine, the police report.

One activist was stopped for dumping waste on the highway. A fine will also follow here. It is not known how many fines will be issued in total.

Waste was dumped on the road on the A28 between Meppel and Staphorst last night. The activists dumped large bags of unknown contents, tractor tires, agricultural plastic and straw bales and set them on fire. A traffic jam formed in both directions. The A28 has now been fully reopened.

Furthermore, the police intervened on the N851 near Rogat. Six fines were issued to activists there last night. They drove their tractor on the road, while that is prohibited.

Road inspectors from Rijkswaterstaat this morning took stock of the A28 and A32 near Steenwijk-Noord, where a fire was also set. According to a spokesperson, no damage was left to the road surface at the last location. However, there are fire remains on the roadside, which will be cleared away later today.

Damage was found on the road surface of the A28 from Meppel towards Staphorst. According to the spokesperson, the situation is now safe, but the weak spots are being monitored. “The asphalt has been hot, we see that and we continue to monitor it.”
