A positive doping test from Kamila Waliyeva caused a stir at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing. The Russian athlete has changed since then.
Kamila Valiyeva caused a stir at the 2022 Beijing Olympics. The then 15-year-old Russian figure skater won the gold medal with the team. However, a positive doping sample from December 2021 became known. Valiyeva was still allowed to compete in the individual. At first she was clearly in the lead, but fell several times during the free skate, burst into tears and ended up in fourth place.
Valiyeva shows her positive charisma
Since the Olympics, Valiyeva has changed a lot, becoming taller and more mature. The Russian is now 17 years old and a young woman. While in Beijing she was still very petite for her age and the hardships of the time were clearly bothering her, she now appears happy and has a positive charisma in pictures.
The young athlete regularly shares content with her followers on Instagram. She can be seen in advertising campaigns and on the ice. But she also lets her followers share private impressions such as a boat trip or a walk. Valiyeva always beams into the camera.
Last December she also shared photos from a cover shoot with her followers. Valiyeva appeared on the cover of the Russian magazine Atmosphere. The pictures can be seen both on the young Russian’s account and on that of the magazine.
Valiyeva herself has not yet commented on her ban. However, her fans encouraged her not to stop figure skating. The World Anti-Doping Agency welcomed the ruling and said: “Child doping is unforgivable.”
