FC St. Pauli is strengthening itself with the new Swedish national player Erik Ahlstrand from Halmstads BK. Hamburg introduced the 22-year-old midfielder as a new signing on Saturday. He is the second signing in the winter after Aljoscha Kemlein (19; on loan from Union Berlin).
“Erik offers a very exciting profile and therefore fits our game idea very well in the overall package. He combines footballing quality with high speed, creativity, reliability, intensity and will. We are convinced that Erik can expand our offensive options and develop further,” said St. Pauli sports director Andreas Bornemann.
Coach Fabian Hürzeler added: “Erik has a very good offensive one-on-one and passing game. He is also diligent when it comes to recovering and working against the ball. He is particularly characterized by high speed, a high average running distance and an outstanding number of sprints. In addition, he impresses with an extremely positive and professional attitude.”

Ahlstrand, who recently made his debut for the Swedish national team in the 2-1 win against Estonia, said: “FC St. Pauli has a very good reputation for young, ambitious players who want to take the next step. The conversations with those responsible, the game idea and the sporting perspectives convinced me. For me it is a big step to move abroad, so it is particularly important to find the right club. Of course, I found out about FC St. Pauli in advance and am looking forward to playing at Millerntor as soon as possible.” Ahlstrand leaves his training club Halmstad after 134 games (7 goals/11 assists) and with a market value of 800,000 euros as one of the most valuable professionals in the squad.
