The car left the roadway in Knokke-Heist on Elizabetlaan, near Heldenplein, on Friday. A medical incident caused the accident. The emergency services tried to resuscitate the victim, but were unsuccessful. Steve Desmedt, chief of police of the Damme-Knokke-Heist police zone, confirms this. The man himself lived in Heist, not far from the site of the accident. The coastal tram route was briefly interrupted on Friday evening but was later reopened.
