THW Kiel wins insane premier class thriller

The German handball record champion THW Kiel has won its group final in the Champions League and has probably already bought the quarter-final ticket.

Coach Filip Jicha’s team beat RK Zagreb 28:27 (12:15) on Thursday and secured second place in Group A.

Domagoj Duvnjak, together with Harald Reinkind, was the best shooter for Kiel in his Croatian homeland with five goals, Reinkind decided the game with the last throw.

The duel with Meshkov Brest scheduled for the last group match day will not take place, the continental federation EHF has excluded all Russian and Belarusian teams from its competitions – but has not yet decided in detail how this will affect the schedule.

It is possible that all of Brest’s results will be deleted, and only the games that have now been canceled could be counted for the opponent.

In both cases, Kiel could no longer be ousted from one of the first two group places. The top two teams in both groups qualify directly for the quarter-finals.
