Yemen’s Houthi rebels confirm they have carried out an attack, saying they hit the British oil tanker Marlin Luanda. The Houthis say they have used several rockets.
The crew of the oil tanker Marlin Luanda is trying to extinguish the fire raging in one of the cargo tanks on the starboard side. Moreover, help from a military ship is also said to be on its way. Other vessels are advised to proceed with caution and to report any suspicious activity.
The ship, which flies the flag of the Marshall Islands, is said to have been hit in the Gulf of Aden. In that region and also in the Red Sea, many incidents have occurred in recent months with attacks by the rebel group on ships with drones and missiles.
The Iran-backed Houthis want Israel to stop the military operation in the Gaza Strip and are therefore attacking ships linked to Israel or Israel’s allies. The Red Sea is one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world.
