Coach Jürgen Klinsmann missed out on winning the group with the South Korean national soccer team at the Asian Cup.
At the end of the preliminary round, the two-time title winners against outsiders Malaysia were unable to score more than 3:3 (1:0) due to a very late goal. South Korea, which had already secured its place in the round of 16 before the game in Al-Wakrah/Qatar, only came second in season E.
South Korea avoids Japan
With five points, the 1956 and 1960 Asian champions finished behind Bahrain (6), which defeated previous leaders Jordan (4) 1-0 (1-0) in the parallel game. However, Jordan is also through as one of the four best third-place teams in the group.
South Korea has to face the winner of Group France in the round of 16 – Saudi Arabia is currently leading the group ahead of Thailand. Group winners Bahrain have to play against Japan.
