TOother than that blackbird days, from tomorrow the heat will return to Italy and will remain there for at least ten days. After a few weeks of plummeting temperatures, the news could provide relief to those sensitive to the cold. Unfortunately, the fact that the African anticyclone returns in the first month of the year is not at all good news for the climate of 2024, after a a 2023 that beat the heat record of all the previous 174 years, that is, since measurements began.
Abnormal heat: goodbye to the days of Merla and worsening air quality
The temperatures much higher than the seasonal average (it seems it will reach 18°) will last until February, effectively canceling what are considered the coldest days of the year, from January 29th to 31st. Meteorologists agree, although they still speak of “a trend line”, given that there is still a week to go. They confirm, however, that the anomalous heat will start from today, Wednesday 24 January and this will also lead to a marked worsening of the air in the Po Valleyaccompanied by fog even in the central valleys.
Temperatures rising up to 18°
In Italy, the rise in temperatures will be 4-6 degrees above average in the center-south and 6-8 degrees in the north. In Spain the anomaly will be even greater, with temperatures above 20 degrees. There will be no rain. And this is not a good thing because the drought is already making itself felt especially in the South, but also Piedmont, Emilia Romagna and the Adriatic regions are not doing very well.
Abnormal heat, is winter over?
When the anticyclone decides to leave, the cold Arctic air could return. But it’s still too early to be sure. Is winter, therefore, already over? Let’s say that according to meteorologists it hasn’t even started, but that doesn’t mean the real cold couldn’t come later. Perhaps with an unusual snow at Easter: a possible late cold wave would hit the increasingly vulnerable plants.
