Despite the disappointing season, FC Schalke 04 has so far held back with winter transfers. Now the first deal is finally about to be concluded.
As “Sky” reports, the Royal Blues have agreed with Burnley FC on the loan of Darko Churlinov. The Italian journalist Lorenzo Lepore first reported this.
Churlinov will therefore initially play for Schalke until the end of the season. The miners then allegedly have a purchase option for 3.5 million euros.
The 23-year-old is scheduled to complete his medical check in Gelsenkirchen on Sunday. After that, nothing would stand in the way of the signature.
According to the report, the new sports director Marc Wilmots recently met with the left winger to personally clarify the final details. According to Sky, Churlinov has not yet watched the start of the second half of the season against HSV on Saturday evening (0-2) in the stadium.
It would be the winger’s second engagement at FC Schalke 04. Churlinov was already in the area as a loan player during the Knappen’s last second division season. At that time he became one of the promotion heroes with two goals and six assists.
Churlinov brings himself into conversation at Schalke 04
The impending return had been hinted at many times over the last few months. Churlinov repeatedly brought himself into conversation at Schalke through his advisor Mehmet Eser.
“Darko still has Schalke in his heart and would help out. However, FC Schalke and FC Burnley would have to play,” Eser said in December.
The North Macedonian was also considered a dream player for the winter by club officials. Wilmots had not yet officially confirmed the personnel before the HSV game on Saturday.
“Churlinov has a profile that interests us. If it’s financially possible, we’ll work on it. He’s on a list of five or six players. We’re now looking at whether we can do it,” he said on “Sky”.
