A fire broke out in a commercial building on Protonweg in Roosendaal on Saturday afternoon. A lot of smoke is released. Something also exploded, the fire brigade said. The A58 is closed in both directions near the fire. An NL Alert has been sent in the region due to smoke nuisance.
This concerns a building belonging to ‘t Lekker Plekske, a manufacturer of bread and pastry products. It is still unknown what exactly the building is or will be stored there.
Large plume of smoke
According to a 112 correspondent from Omroep Brabant, the fire broke out from the side of the building around two o’clock. The fire brigade is on site with ‘a large number of vehicles’.
The smoke plume can be seen from a great distance. “The smoke is heading towards the towns of Zegge and Oudenbosch,” said the Central and West Brabant Safety Region. The NL-Alert was therefore also sent in that region.
‘Stay away from the fire’
“A fire-fighting water supply is being prepared at a canal in the area to feed the fire-fighting vehicles,” the fire brigade reports.
The fire brigade is asking people to stay away from the fire. In case of smoke nuisance, it is recommended to keep windows and doors closed and to switch off ventilation systems.
