VfB Stuttgart has tied captain Waldemar Anton to the club for a longer period of time. As the third-placed team announced on Sunday, the central defender signed a new working paper for two more years until 2027. The 27-year-old has been active for the Swabians since 2020 after coming from Hannover 96 for 4 million euros and has played 123 games so far for VfB. He reportedly has an exit clause in his new contract.
With his performances as a leading player, he made a significant contribution to the club’s survival from relegation in the Bundesliga last year and to its consistent performance this season. With 19 goals conceded, Stuttgart has the fourth-best defense in the league.
“I feel VfB’s trust every day. We are on the same wavelength, a lot of things are right for me here, I feel comfortable and am therefore very happy about the contract extension. I’m looking forward to the next few years in the jersey with the chest ring,” explained Anton, who has been wearing the captain’s armband since this season.

VfB sports director Fabian Wohlgemuth says of Anton, who increased his market value from 4.5 million to 10 million euros last year: “Waldemar Anton is the anchor in our defense and, as captain, a real leader on and off the pitch. Waldi constantly trains and plays at the highest level and also impresses with an outstanding mentality. We are very pleased that we were able to agree to continue our collaboration before the start of the new football year.”
Before Anton, Enzo Millot had recently extended his working paper with the Stuttgart team (to the news).
