It is no longer pleasant and safe for employees to work at the waste disposal station. The depot where small chemical waste is collected is rusting on all sides. Ceiling tiles are loose and the walls in the drafty building are moldy. Other buildings on the site have little or no insulation.
“The working conditions are outdated,” acknowledges responsible councilor Bert Jan ten Oever (PLOP). “We do not have good facilities for our employees in rain and cold and we want to get rid of that.”
The municipality’s cleaning team manager, Koeno Oosterhuis, hopes that something will change soon at ‘his’ environmental park. “The place has been in a poor state of repair for years. Employees have already complained about health problems. So something really needs to be done,” says Oosterhuis.
There is also little pleasure for visitors from a trip to the recycling center. The access roads are tight and at busy times traffic is at a standstill. Trucks cannot leave the paid dump site when residents come to take away waste in their cars.
