Attacker Hannes Wolf will leave Borussia Mönchengladbach shortly. After three and a half largely unsatisfactory years, the 24-year-old Austrian is moving on to Major League Soccer. His goal: New York City FC. As the “WAZ” reports, Wolf’s contract with the “Fohlen”, which was valid until June 2024, was terminated. As his agent confirmed to the newspaper, the professional will sign a four-year contract with his new club on Saturday.
“Unfortunately things didn’t work out for Hannes in Mönchengladbach. Now he is looking forward to the new task. “He had a good feeling about New York from the start,” said Antonio Baotic. According to reports, Borussia can no longer collect a transfer fee – only Wolf’s remaining salary will be saved.

The man from Graz initially moved from RB Leipzig to Gladbach on loan for 1.5 million euros in the summer of 2020, before he was signed permanently for 9.5 million euros a year later via a mandatory follow-up agreement. In total, Wolf was involved in eight goals in 69 competitive games (five goals, three assists). He spent the second half of the 2021/22 season on loan at Swansea City.
Under the new coach Gerardo Seoane, Wolf no longer played any role and remained unused. Its top market value of 12 million euros (June 2019) has now fallen to 2 million euros. Even before the season, the left-footer was one of Gladbach’s sales candidates. However, the separation, which makes sense for both sides, is only now being completed.
