Iivo Niskanen continued Matti Mattsson’s started a tradition. He wrote a letter to the Athlete of the Year. In the letter, he wished a relaxed evening for the evening party.
Niskanen himself did not have time to celebrate last year’s victory, as he was already heading to the next competitions.
Athlete of the year Lauri Markkanen probably did the same. Instead Wilma Murtothe prize medalist who offered Finns the most exciting moment of the year for the second time in a row, tried to stick to Niskanen’s instructions.
– Yes, my evening continues in a relaxed way. Earlier in the evening I was asked if this is my only day off this winter. I replied that this is not a day off. I was working out in the morning and I’m going to work out tomorrow too. Not one gala nothing else. I’m going to sleep on this as long as I can, Murto, who was holding Uuno upright, smiled.
Murto was embarrassed by the recognition he received. He said that the Most Exciting Sports Moment of the Year award category is his favorite.

– I feel that in sports, the home stand and the audience are the biggest force that makes things work and why it has more importance than just a single achievement. That’s why winning the public vote award is such a big deal to me.
Why did your jumps once again excite the entire Finnish people so much?
– I’m the wrong person to answer that. That’s probably why this is such a confusing experience at the same time that the audience feels that way. I’m really taken by it.
In the coming year, there is a heavy rush of prestigious competitions ahead: the indoor World Championships, the European Championships on outdoor tracks and the Paris Olympics.
– At the Olympics, my realistic goal is a medal. I believe there is a requirement of 495 or even a five meter jump.
