MGMT have released a new single with “Nothing To Declare”. The accompanying album, LOSS OF LIFE, will be released on February 23rd. The duo also included a music video for the release. After “Mother Nature” and “Bubblegum Dog”, the track is the third release from their fifth studio record.
MGMT with the ghost of Elliot Smith
With its indie folk and alternative rock elements, “Nothing To Declare” is the most peaceful of the three LOSS OF LIFE releases released. The track’s plucked acoustic guitar and gentle vocals are strongly reminiscent of the style of musician Elliot Smith, who died in 2003. In the lyrics, MGMT seem to want to take us on a journey of self-discovery marked by dreams, challenges and the search for meaning.

An album about the power of love
Andrew VanWyngarden and Ben Goldwasser announced the release of their new record last October: their fifth LP will be released on February 23rd. They wrote on Instagram: “We are over the moon with this collection of songs and are excited to share it with the world. “It is an album that showcases the power of love in the face of inevitable human death and decay and hopes to provide collective solace in the memory of the universe’s inextinguishable but often brutal desire for balance and harmony.”
