The lower limb injury is behind us.

Kaapo Kako is close to returning, informed the head coach of the New York Rangers Peter Laviolette. On Wednesday, Kakko was in training strength without a no-contact shirt for the first time since his injury.

– Right now the situation is day-to-day, Laviolette commented according to the NY Post.

– He seems to be in really good shape.

Kako has missed 19 matches due to a lower limb injury. He sprained his leg at the end of November in a game against the Buffalo Sabres.

Laviolette did not rule out a return this week.

– We go through things with the doctors, coaches and management. We do what is best for the player.

The Rangers face the St. Louis Blues early Friday morning Finnish time and the Washington Capitals twice over the weekend.
