Nottingham Forest’s home ground, the City Ground, is an important place in Manchester United’s history.
Right there by Mark Robins the winning goal was saved by the manager Alex Ferguson sacked in January 1990 when, according to press reports, United’s board were ready to bring the Scot back north across the border.
Ferguson was there on Saturday as well, but this time he was sitting in the stands next to another noble sports person: Sir David Brailsford will soon take over the duties of United’s sporting director when the partial purchase of the Ineos group goes through the bureaucracy of the Premier League.
Brailsford saw in a harsh way what a great task he had before him.
Forest took the lead after just over an hour from the Argentine by Nicolás Domínguez enjoying the confusion of the United defence.
Although Marcus Rashford evened the match, the host team won 2–1 in the end By Morgan Gibbs-White with a great shot.

– You’ll get fired in the morning, the United manager sang the home team’s supporters For Erik ten Hag.
The Dutchman will certainly be able to keep his job beyond the turn of the year, but even though Ineos has tentatively committed to continue working with him, its patience will not last forever.
Manchester United have lost almost half of their league games this season (20 matches, 9 defeats). Taking all matches into account, Forest already offered the 14th defeat of the autumn.
The last time the team performed as poorly was in the 1930–31 season, when it also remained the jumbo of the series, falling to the second division.
It is clear that ten Hag will soon have to get his defense in order. In Forest’s winning goal, the team crossed United’s midfield practically completely without opposition.
