Walking tours, theater performances and even a Top 2000 café. You don’t have to be bored in Drenthe in the days between Christmas and New Year’s Eve, because there is plenty to do. Below is a selection of activities in the province.
The Youth Club Papparazo in Oosterhesselen is going all out again this year and is organizing its own Top 2000 café until December 30. The music boxes play the hits of the Top 2000 and there is a wide choice of drinks. The club’s board sees the activity as a kind of open house. Anyone who wants to take a look is very welcome. The café is open from 7:00 PM to 1:00 AM. The youth center can be found at Kockstraat 48.
There is also a Top 2000 café in Nieuw-Buinen. Until New Year’s Day, the canteen of tennis club GSM at Zonnedauw 2 has been transformed into a music café and money is being raised for the Rikki Foundation.
If you fancy a nice, fat oliebol after all the Christmas walks, you can go to the Bethel Church in Hoogeveen on December 30. The Reddende Engel Foundation organizes an oliebollen campaign with which it wants to raise money for various charities. The oliebollen are free, but the organization hopes that visitors will make a small contribution for the delicacy.
On Saturday, December 30, the plant working group of nature organization IVN-KNNV will look for wild plants that bloom in winter in the Asser Marsdijk district. Everyone is welcome and knowledge of plants is not necessary. It starts at 10am. You can gather in the parking lot at Stelmakerstraat 32.
The eleventh edition of the Midwinterhoorn walking tour will be organized at the Pétanque Club in Schoonebeek on Saturday, December 30. The tours start at 4:30 PM, where you can learn more about the midwinter horn along an illuminated route; a long, curved and wooden wind instrument. Tickets cost five euros and there are different routes, ranging from 6 and 10 kilometers.
