Ilaix Moriba could hardly be further away from decent future prospects at RB Leipzig. The Spanish first division club FC Getafe was recently mentioned as a possible buyer for a loan move, where the club boss has now confirmed an interest in the 20-year-old midfielder.
“For example,” said Getafe President Ángel Torres (quoted via “Marca“), asked whether Moriba could be the reinforcement we are looking for in the upcoming winter transfer window. “He is one of the players who have already been offered to us,” he revealed and added: “The coach knows him” – Moriba and Getafe’s coach Pepe Bordalás had already met once at Valencia FC. The coach called up the Guinea international 18 times during his first loan there. Moriba has not collected more appearances with any professional coach (the same number under Ronald Koeman at training club FC Barcelona).
For Leipzig coach Marco Rose, however, Moriba plays no role at all. The young professional returned to the Saxons last summer after a year and a half with 46 games for Valencia, but didn’t get a single minute of action. He was only part of the squad on six Bundesliga matchdays and once in the cup. “Ilaix has trained well for the last six months, behaves perfectly, Marco also has a very good exchange with him,” sports director Rouven Schröder recently said about Moriba. “But there is a lot of competition in his position.”
According to President Torres, strengthening the midfield is a priority for Getafe. If an agreement is reached, the transfer will “certainly” happen, he emphasized, without specifying whether they could be looking for more than one loan. Schröder had clearly spoken about this model. Moriba, for whom RB paid Barça 16 million euros in 2021, is contractually bound until 2026. The RB official said they are confident that “a loan deal will work out this winter because it is clear: he has to play.”
