The Government creates a fund of 2,000 million euros for foreigners to invest in Spain

The Government has approved in Minister council this Wednesday the creation of a fund endowed with 2 billion euros with which to encourage foreign investment in Spain. This financial instrument will be under the control of the publicly owned company called Cofides and will promote co-investment in “strategic sectors”, that is, for every euro that foreign companies allocate to projects located on Spanish soil, Cofides will provide another euro from that 2,000 million fund.

The budget enabled for the fund will come from the European Next Generation funds and will be able to make direct investments in companies, as well as take equity stakes “in investment vehicles that support new investments in Spain”, as made public by the Ministry of Economy in a release. The objectives of this investment will be “the energy transition, digital transformation, sustainable mobility, biotechnology or sustainable agriculture”, according to the department led by Nadia Calvino.
