Did you participate in a fun social challenge? The police are warning

Sharing your personal information on the internet can lead to unpleasant consequences.

Many times in social media, you may not think about the consequences of even small information given about yourself.

Senior constable of the Ostrobothnia Police Department Mint Pihlas warns on Instagram that even crimes can be committed with the information provided.

Pihlas tells in his video as an example, that personal information shared in Instagram stories should not be shared publicly. Such information includes, for example, date of birth.

In the example of the video, there is a so-called filter used in the stories, to which people can give their answers. Pihlas reminds that anyone can browse information if the profile is public.

– You can unwittingly and unknowingly become the target of abuse and crime. Your information can be used to make online purchases and fake profiles. They can be used on illegal sites, Pihlas wrote in the publication.

Pihlas also mentioned that a criminal can use personal data to hide behind the user’s identity, for example by using artificial intelligence.

– Unfortunately, crimes happen all the time. Don’t facilitate criminal activity by sharing your own information, Pihlas reminded.
