Alba Berlin has left the bottom of the table in the EuroLeague. The team led by basketball world champion Johannes Thiemann surprisingly defeated second-placed and two-time title holder FC Barcelona on Tuesday evening (December 19, 2023) with 74:70 (38:41).
Despite the victory, the Berliners are still almost hopelessly behind in the race for the final round places with only three wins from 15 games.
Weak start – then top performance
After a weak start (7:19), the Berliners turned things around and Spanish coach Israel Gonzalez’s team took control after the break at the latest. Thiemann had twelve points and seven rebounds, Berlin’s top scorer was Matt Thomas (13 points).
Alba won’t be able to relax just before Christmas: the EuroLeague will continue on Friday against top Istanbul club Fenerbahce.
