The first Russian peacekeepers arrived in Kazakhstan

The first units of the main forces of the Russian peacekeepers arrived in Kazakhstan. Their transfer took place with standard equipment. In total, 3,600 peacekeepers from five CSTO countries will be brought into Kazakhstan. Russian paratroopers arrived on Il-76 military transport aircraft.

The march from the permanent deployment point to the Chkalovsky loading airfield was undertaken by units of the 45th separate special forces brigade of the airborne troops from Kubinka, the Ivanovo paratroopers were transferred through the Ivanovo-Severny airfield, and the Ulyanovsk airborne unit through Ulyanovsk-Vostochny.

Collective peacekeeping forces five CSTO members were sent to Kazakhstan by decision of the CSTO Collective Security Council, which was adopted on January 6, 2022.

In addition to Russia, Armenia, Belarus and Kyrgyzstan are bringing in their peacekeepers. Also, 200 Tajik peacekeepers arrive on the territory of Kazakhstan.

Riots in Kazakhstan started on January 2. The formal reason was a two-fold increase in the price of liquefied gas for cars. The rallies turned into pogroms. In Almaty, protesters seized and destroyed the terminal of the international airport. Crowds smashed shop windows and looted shops and malls, and burned law enforcement, ambulance and fire service vehicles. According to preliminary data, the damage from pogroms in Kazakh cities is estimated at almost 40 billion tenge. This is more than $ 90 million, assessed by the Atameken National Chamber of Entrepreneurs.

The task of the peacekeepers of the Collective Security Treaty Organization is to help the law enforcement agencies of Kazakhstan in restoring order, an end to looting and violence
