Real Sociedad as group winners in Champions League | Foreign football

Real Sociedad advances to the last sixteen as winners of group D in the Champions League. After the 0-0 at Internazionale in Milan, the Spanish team finished at the top of the group with the same number of points as Inter.

Davy Klaassen was on the bench at Inter, but he did not come on. Real Sociedad claimed a penalty in the second half, but the referee ruled the Japanese Takefusa Kubo’s stumble as a fluke.

Benfica won 3-1 against Red Bull Salzburg and the team of former PSV coach Roger Schmidt climbed to third place in the group with the 3 points achieved. The Portuguese will play for a place in the knockout phase of the Europa League after the winter.

Benfica had to beat Salzburg by two goals and they only succeeded very late in the match. Arthur Cabral made it 3-1 in injury time. Before that, Ángel di María and Rafa Silva had scored. Luka Susic scored the goal for the home team from Austria.

Napoli effortlessly into the last sixteen

Napoli effortlessly reached the eighth finals. The Italians won 2-0 against Braga, where a small defeat would have been enough to take second position behind Real Madrid in the final standings. Napoli quickly took the lead thanks to an own goal by Serdar Saatci. African Footballer of the Year Victor Osimhen made it 2-0 after more than half an hour.

The good news for Braga came from Berlin after the break. Shortly before the break, Union Berlin had taken the lead against Real, which had seen Luka Modric miss a penalty moments earlier. Kevin Volland was the scorer, after a miss in the back by David Alaba. In the 61st minute, Joselu headed in the equalizer (1-1). Eleven minutes later the attacker scored again with his head.

Union equalized shortly before the end thanks to Alex Kral (2-2). A win would take the Germans past Braga to third place, good for a place in the play-offs for a ticket to the knockout phase in the Europa League. It didn’t get that far, Dani Ceballos even made it 3-2 for Real, meaning Braga still had something to celebrate despite the defeat in Naples.
