Alba Berlin and Brose Bamberg were the first teams to book their ticket to the top four tournament for the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) Cup.
Record winner Berlin prevailed on Saturday in the quarter-finals with 85:70 (45:36) at Syntainics MBC, Bamberg secured progress with a hard-fought 88:87 (42:39) at Rasta Vechta.
On Saturday, BBL table leaders Niners Chemnitz will face German champions ratiopharm Ulm. Defending champion Bayern Munich will face Champions League winners Telekom Baskets Bonn on Sunday (5:00 p.m.).
This season, for the first time in a 14-year break, participants from the 2nd league (ProA) took part in the BBL Cup. The eight best Bundesliga teams from last season only got into the round of 16. It is not yet clear when the top four tournament for cup victory will take place. The venue will be advertised among the participants.
