Hannover fights back after 0-2 against KSC – BTSV turns game in Wiesbaden

Hannover 96 overcame a 2-0 deficit in the second home game in a row in the promotion race for the 2nd Bundesliga. In the 2:2 (0:1) against Karlsruher SC on Friday evening, the new sixth-place team repeated the feat from the game against Hertha BSC (2:2). Nevertheless, the 96ers are increasingly in danger of losing touch with the promotion places. Of the last six second division games, they have only won the Lower Saxony derby against arch-rivals Eintracht Braunschweig.

Two former national players initially shaped this game: Hannover’s Marcel Halstenberg scored an own goal in the eleventh minute. Karlsruhe’s Lars Stindl increased the score to 2-0 shortly after the break (53′). Andreas Voglsammer brought the 96ers closer again in the 72nd minute. The Japanese Sei Muroya scored the deserved equalizer in the first minute of added time.

Hannover dominated the game for the most part, but only became really pressing and dangerous in the last 20 minutes. Even before the equalizer, Christopher Scott hit the crossbar with a beautiful long-range shot in the 80th minute.

Third defeat of SV Wehen Wiesbaden against Eintracht Braunschweig

SV Wehen Wiesbaden lost their third second division game in a row against Eintracht Braunschweig with 1:3 (0:1). The guests gave a sign of life in the relegation battle with their success on Friday evening in front of 7,726 spectators. With their first away points this season, the second-to-last in the table reduced their gap to the relegation place to five points. Fabio Kaufmann scored a brace (48th, 77th minute). Rayan Philippe (56th) also scored for the North Germans. Aleksandar Vukotic (18th) put the Hessians in the lead.

The hosts started very powerfully and after just a few seconds had the chance to score the first goal through Hyun-Ju Lee, whose shot from six meters was saved by Braunschweig goalkeeper Ron-Thorben Hoffmann. The SVWW took the lead on the second opportunity with a header from Vukotic. As a result, the hosts withdrew and allowed the guests to get more into the game, but they remained harmless until the break.

The Braunschweig coach Daniel Scherning made a triple substitution at the break and was quickly rewarded with the 1-1 equalizer from Kaufmann. He hit the left corner from 17 meters after Eintracht quickly switched to a corner for Wiesbaden. Substitute Philippe turned the game in favor of Lower Saxony with his goal to make it 2-1 from six meters just a few minutes later. The hosts couldn’t think of enough to endanger Braunschweig’s victory. On the other hand, Kaufmann made everything clear with his second goal in the final phase.
