Brabant turns white in many places and this is what it looks like

There was a thin layer of snow almost everywhere in our province on Sunday evening. The first flakes fell at the end of the afternoon in the west of Brabant. Then it quickly became white and slippery in other places. About three centimeters of snow has fallen in most places, which makes for beautiful pictures. In Oisterwijk and Bladel, among others, children were even able to make snowmen.

The snow is moving from the southwest to the northeast of the Netherlands. The expectation was therefore that most snow would fall in the west, but according to Jaco van Wezel, meteorologist at Weerplaza, this turned out differently. According to him, the streets turn white, especially in the southeast.

“This morning we thought that it would mainly be bearable in the west, but it is less serious there. A heavier cloud of precipitation has passed over the east, causing it to turn white there,” the weatherman explains.

“The snow will be gone soon.”

“But we are not talking about a lot of snow. In Brabant it is about three centimeters of snow. Locally, five centimeters can fall, but that really varies per place,” says Van Wezel.

During the evening the snowflakes will move on again. “It will be dry again at Woensdrecht from half past eight. The drought is spreading from that corner. In the northeast it can snow until half past eleven.” It may even thaw a few degrees, causing the layer of snow to melt away again. “The snow will then be gone in no time. That’s because softer air is flowing in this direction.”

The KNMI has issued weather code yellow for Sunday. It can become slippery throughout the country due to snowfall. That is why gritting has been done in many places. Rijkswaterstaat warns road users who take to the road on Sunday evening or Monday morning: “it may still be slippery here and there, so adjust your driving style”.
