American Time magazine chose Aki Kaurismäki Dead leaves for the best film of the year. Kaurismäki was left behind, among other things, with director names such as Martin Scorsese and Christopher Nolan.
Film critic for Time magazine Stephanie Zacharek describes Alma Pöystin, Jussi Vatanen and the movie starring Kaurismäki’s dog Alma as a great masterpiece, whose small moments reveal something about the core of humanity.
The director Kaurismäki is called by critics a master of expressionless comedy.
– Kaurismäki opens our eyes again to things we sometimes forget we know. He is the patron saint of reminders: he knows that the miracle is already inside us, the film’s review says.
In the top ten list of the best films, Dead Leaves is director Aki Kaurismäki’s twentieth film, which premiered in September this year. The film won the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in May. The dead leaves is also Finland’s candidate for the Oscar for best international film.
The directorial greatness of Martin Scorsese Killers of the flower moon is only seventh on Time magazine’s list, and has become a Christopher Nolan phenomenon Oppenheimer only got an honorable mention at the end of the article.
