“This historic game will play a critical role in the NFL’s efforts to expand its international presence while allowing us to directly reach out to NFL fans in Germany,” said Buccaneers Co-Chairman Joel Glazer, according to the NFL statement.

The exact date of the game and Tampa Bay’s opponents will be announced at a later date when the 2022 schedule is officially announced. “We are very excited to have a recent Super Bowl champion in Munich in the Buccaneers and thank them for making sure it’s a memorable start to our game series in Germany,” said NFL Europe boss.

The Munich game will be one of five international games hosted by the NFL this year. In addition to the game in Germany, there will be three matches in Great Britain and one in Mexico. In the next four years, four main round games of the best football league in the world are to be played in Frankfurt and Munich.

The NFL announced last fall that it wanted to play football games in Germany in addition to London, thus paying tribute to the growing interest in the league. In December, the league also announced that the New England Patriots, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Kansas City Chiefs and Carolina Panthers would be able to expand their marketing activities to Germany in the future. The rights initially apply for at least five years.
