Through www.ruimteraadpleging.nl As of today, we can give everyone advice about the organization of the Netherlands. These advices will be taken into account when drawing up a new Spatial Policy Memorandum. The online consultation is open until January 1, 2024. The consultation is part of a broader participation process, the first results of which will be sent to the House of Representatives this spring.

Major tasks in the future will all require more space, while more space will not become available. The Netherlands must therefore choose where, how and to what it offers space. During the consultation, participants can, as it were, ‘sit in the minister’s chair’ and weigh up policy options and interests in an accessible manner. This includes themes such as healthier nature, dealing with climate change, the construction of new houses, the generation of clean energy, a more sustainable agriculture and economy.

The first part of the consultation concerns values and principles that people consider important when dividing space. In the second part, participants can indicate what they want to spend more or less space on. The online consultation is based on the methodology of the so-called Participatory Value Evaluation (PWE) developed by TU Delft.

Take control again

With the new Spatial Policy Memorandum, which is expected next year, the cabinet will regain control over spatial planning. Direction is necessary to ensure a fair distribution of the scarce space in the Netherlands. In the run-up to the Spatial Planning Memorandum, the cabinet presented the contour memorandum last month with the first lines of thought and principles for the organization of the Netherlands.

The online consultation can be found at www.ruimteraadpleging.nl.
