FC St. Pauli wants to improve its economic situation by founding a cooperative and build up more equity. President Oke Göttlich announced this on Thursday evening at the general meeting of the second division leaders in the Hamburg Congress Center. The association has “revived an idea from the membership and examined, discussed and promoted it over the past few months,” said Göttlich in front of the more than 700 voting members.
“It’s about a financing model that suits FC St. Pauli and is based on participation.” The prerequisites should be created by the first half of 2024 in order to found a cooperative. “We have the courage to take this step and to set up our own financing,” he emphasized, but did not give any further details.
Economically, FC St. Pauli is back on a growth path after the Corona years, but suffered a loss of 4.9 million euros in the 2022/23 financial year. Sales rose to a record level of almost 62 million euros, compared to a good 50 million euros in the previous year. In addition, equity fell from EUR 8.1 million to EUR 3.2 million. “FC St. Pauli has not yet managed to regain its old economic strength after the turbulence of the Corona years. “We have to realize predictable profits in the group and club in the coming years in order to increase our equity, and thus our economic security and independence, back to pre-Corona levels in the future,” said Göttlich.
