Willy hopes for PSV national title again: ‘Won’t continue to play so badly’

Club icon Willy van de Kerkhof once again believes in the national title for PSV this football season. The difference between the Eindhoven number two in the Eredivisie and leader Ajax is only two points, after the Amsterdam team surprisingly lost three points at Go Ahead Eagles on Sunday.

Yet PSV also made a lousy impression on Sunday. The team of coach Roger Schmidt got away very well with a 2-1 victory at Sparta.

“It didn’t go well,” Willy said. “Sparta was very dominant in the first hour, while PSV played very mediocre football, just like in recent weeks. Fortunately, there were still one or two players who did achieve their level, including Mauro Junior. That’s how you get those three points out of the fire. despite a very bad game. If you then see Eagles win against Ajax, you still have a great day.”

PSV only made the difference after Sparta ended up with ten men, after a red card for Arno Verschueren. “It was indeed a bit easier with ten people,” the club icon told the radio program WAKKER on Monday morning. on Omroep Brabant.

“Sparta was very hard on the PSV players. Sometimes a bit too hard, I think. That red card was therefore justified. It was an attack on the back of Eran Zahavi’s leg, which is just red. That Sparta With ten men, the team had to blame itself.”

The difference between PSV and Ajax in the ranking is now only two points. That offers the Eindhoven club perspective again. Although Willy points to the much worse goal difference of the Eindhoven club. “So we always have to get a point for Ajax.”

Yet after Sunday, the ex-international secretly dares to dream a bit of the national title for ‘his’ club. “Certainly, why not? The difference is manageable. At least I assume that PSV will not continue to play football as badly as now…”

Where PSV did good business last weekend, RKC and Willem II suffered a defeat. Willem II lost 1-0 in and from Groningen. RKC was still at 1-1 against FC Twente a minute before the end, but via Dimitrios LImnios the Tukkers still took off with the three points.

“A deserved defeat”, says Willy. “FC Twente had so many opportunities!” Willem II, on the other hand, had earned a point at FC Groningen in his opinion.

Willem II and RKC are respectively in 15th and 14th place in the Eredivisie, fraternally at the bottom. a hell of a job for them. They have to try and collect points.”
